Sunday parking restriction should go ahead as plannedPublished 26 November 2019 by Transform Scotland
We have today published our response to suggested changes to the City of Edinburgh Council’s Parking Action Plan Traffic Regulation Order 19/29 in relation to item 1 – Sunday parking.
We fully support the proposal to extend the operating hours of parking controls in the city centre so that parking restrictions and parking places operate on Sunday afternoons.
We agree with the view that managing parking will help to ensure that buses and other forms of transport can negotiate the city centre effectively and safely, provide improved access to the city centre for residents and visitors alike, and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
Transform Scotland Director, Colin Howden said:
“As a result of changes in working and leisure practices, Sunday is no longer a day set apart from the other days of the week. The traffic pressures on a Sunday, therefore, require the same management measures as at other times.
“The above proposals will greatly help bus users, pedestrians and cyclists and have benefits in terms of sustainable transport, greenhouse emissions and public health, and are therefore to be welcomed.”
