Transform joins European organisations in raising concerns over aviation ‘CO2 standard’Published 04 May 2016 by Jamie Wylie
Transform Scotland has joined fellow European transport and environmental groups in raising concerns over new aviation regulations.
The letter to European Climate and Transport Ministers, orchestrated by the Transport & Environment group, highlights clear shortcomings in a recent ‘CO2 standard’ for new aircraft proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The letter outlines a number of problems with the proposed new regulations, including large overestimations of carbon emission reductions, poor regulatory pressure on manufacturers and a less pressure on efficiency improvements in the industry.
Transform & Environment are presently awaiting a response from the European Commission on the concerns raised in the letter.
