More funding for walking and cycling is welcome news

Published 08 May 2018 by Transform Scotland

The Scottish Government has revealed that a fund to create walking and cycling routes will be more than doubled.

The Community Links Fund, which will be increased to £36 million, allows public bodies and community trusts to develop safe and high quality cycle routes across Scotland. The increase comes as part of the recently doubled active travel budget, which was announced last year in the Programme for Government.

Commenting on the news, Jamie Wylie, spokesperson for Transform Scotland, said:

It’s great to see more funding for Community Links projects. Creating safe, convenient and high quality infrastructure is vital for making walking and cycling easy for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

“There’s a lot more work to be done to make walking and cycling the first choice for people in Scotland, but this funding is certainly a step in the right direction and is very welcome.”
