Edinburgh Airport expansion plans a threat to progress on climatePublished 12 November 2016 by Colin Howden
Responding to the launch of Edinburgh Airport’s consultation on its expansion plans, Transform Scotland director Colin Howden said:
“Aviation is the most polluting form of transport and one that threatens Scotland’s ability to meet its climate change commitments. The aviation industry thinks it should be allowed to expand without restraint and without regard for Scotland’s international commitments, instead expecting that other parts of the economy should bear the responsibility for cutting emissions while its growth is allowed to continue unfettered.
“The industry would also like people to believe that it is an unqualified benefit for the Scottish economy when in fact Scotland suffers a massive tourism deficit, where we fly much more cash out of the Scottish economy than we bring in from international visitors.”
